Kenema blind launch their association

The launching of the Chiefdom Assembly of the Sierra Leone Association for the Blind has taken place at the Kenema Training Centre for the Blind.
In his statement the chairman Chiefdom Management Committee, Hanafi Sowa, said the rationale behind the launching “is to replace the chiefdom management committee so as to spearhead the affairs of all blind and visually impaired people and to mobilize local resources in the interest of their membership”.
The inspector of schools in Kenema, showered praises on the Almighty God for what he described as “a wonderful gesture”. The chairman reminded the blind community that the centre belonged to them, adding that they should make good use of the facility for its intended purposes.
Mr Charlie J. Kallon, the deputy chief administrator of the Kenema District Council, gave the keynote address and did the formal launching.
The director of the Sierra Leone Association for the Blind, Woma Ema Parker, and the Institute’s supervisor of community based rehabilitation and empowerment project for the blind, Salami Gbassah, made contributions.
Similar launchings are expected to take place in accessible chiefdoms in the Kenema district.
