The Chairman of the physically challenged persons in Daru town Jawei chiefdom in Kailahun district Augustine Kallon has expressed his dissatisfaction over the marginalisation they are subjected to by authorities in the chiefdom. Kallon made this revelation about their plight when talking to the press in Daru town Jawie chiefdom recently where he accused the Jawie chiefdom authorities of excluding them from all forms of decision making processes in the chiefdom. He described the attitude of the Jawei chiefdom authorities towards them as negative saying it is a violation of their human right to participate and contribute to the development of their community contrary to International Human Right laws. He says disability is not an inability adding most of the physically challenged people can perform better than some physically able people.
Augustine Kallon disclosed that disabled persons in Jawei chiefdom have galvanised themselves under the banner of Moawoma Development Association (MDA) operating in the chiefdom in order to advocate for their welfare. He praised a section chief in Sowa section for his contribution towards their program as opposed to other chiefs in Jawie chiefdom in the district. The chairman is calling on all and sundry particularly the paramount chief of Jawie chiefdom PC Musa Ngombugla Kallon and the chiefdom administration including International and National Non governmental organisations operating in the chiefdom to support the physically challenged people with livelihood activities to make them self reliant in their communities.
