The Salone Volleyball U-23 team yesterday lost to Burkina Faso by 3-2 aggregate in the on going U-23 Volleyball competition in the ECOWAS games in Abuja Nigeria.
Salone lost the first two sets by 25-10, 25-12 but came back very strong to win the next two matches by 26-24, 25-21.
In the final match which is the best of 15 Sierra Leone lost by 15-6, losing after putting up a brilliant performance.
In a telephone conversation with this press Bockarie Alieu who witnessed the match in Abuja said that even though the Sierra Leone side lost the match but their performance was good as they were able to level the score from two set down to two all.
Alieu said even though they lost to Burkina Faso the Sierra Leone Volleyball team is still in the competition and will play the runners up in group B.
Sierra Leone was able to progress to that stage of the competition when their opponent Ghana failed to turn up for the match on Sunday.
In the Group B match on Monday Nigeria Volleyball team defeated Benin Republic in three straight sets to lead the male volleyball competition
This match was played at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium in Abuja. The two teams ran neck-to-neck towards the end to stay locked at 24-24 before Nigeria won the game at 26-24.
Benin took the initiative in the second set to lead 6-3 but Nigeria leveled up at 11-11 led at 16-12 and later 21-14 before taking the set at 25-19.
The third and final set was the toughest with Benin again holding on to an early lead and the Nigerian side struggling to level up and then taking the game at 25-22.
The competition will continue today with Nigeria facing Niger.
