The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Mohamed D. Koroma has appealed to World Vision International Sierra Leone office for support in the provision of Health Care Delivery for lactating mothers, pregnant women and under five children so as to sustain the Government’s free Health care initiative.
The Minister made these remarks while responding to questions from a visiting delegation from the Federal Republic of Germany comprising of Journalists who are in the country to report about the Government Health Care Policy and efforts put in place to achieve the millennium Development Goals by 2015.
Briefing the Minister about World Vision activities in Sierra Leone the National Director Jennifer Harold said World Vision is an International organization working towards the protection and promotion of the welfare of children and health, through the Area Development Program (ADP)
She informed the Minister about World Vision programs that are in line with the Government of Sierra Leone Agenda for Change for economic growth and sustainable development.
The National Director Jennifer Harold assured the Deputy Minister of World Vision continuous support towards the promotion of health care delivery in the country adding that breast feeding campaign is also core to World Vision activities in Sierra Leone.
The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Mohamed D. Koroma welcomed the delegation and explained about the status of the health care delivery particularly the free health care initiative. He said the government has made significant progress but there are still challenges and support is needed to address some of the problems.
The Leader of the delegation from Germany Silvia Holten of World Vision said “we are in the country to report about health issues and to also look at World Vision activities with the view to report it in the German media.”
She said the delegation comprises of several journalists drawn from the print and electronic media in Germany so that World Vision partners and sponsors can understand the true picture of the organization activities and its impact on the people of Sierra Leone.
The visiting delegation from Germany is expected to travel to World Vision operational areas across the country.
