The National Electoral Commission NEC has on Friday 3rd September 2010 ended the second session and certification ceremony for the second batch of students who have undergone training under the Institute of Electoral Administration and Civic Education Program ( INECE-SL) at the Eastern Polytechnic college along Combema road in Kenema city.
In his statement the Regional Coordinator of the Institute of Electoral Administration and Civic Education program for the East Philip Kargbo says the program is registered with the National Certificate and Tertiary Vocational Award (NCTVA) and it is aimed at transforming the negative perception of people against the commission especially during the electioneering process.
He pointed out that the INECE-SL cannot accommodate any form of cheating in any way whatsoever adding that the whole thing about election is credibility and integrity. Philip Kargbo says candidates that have gone through the various disciplines of the INECE programme now have the necessary knowledge on electoral procedures and will be required to complement the efforts of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) in the conduct of elections in the country. He disclosed that the second phase of the course started with approximately one hundred students but ended up with 82 male and 12 female citing the late provision of relevant resources and the lack of administrative assistance as some of the problems the Institute encountered during the implementation of the second phase of the programme.
Delivering her statement the acting principal of the Institute of Electoral Administration and Civic Education Sierra Leone program (INECE-SL) who is also a NEC Commissioner Hannah Kewaley commended the facilitators for their commitment and courage to give the candidate the essential knowledge in the interest of the country, and called on the graduands to utilise the knowledge well for the development of the nation. She therefore appealed to all and sundry especially those that have gone through the course to always do their best and to ensure that they always work honestly for the benefit of the country.
