Through their partnership with Marie Stopes, to reduce maternal mortality rate in the country, the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), has donated a Four Runner Land Cruiser vehicle to Maries Stopes to aid them in their outreach activities.
Handing over the keys on behalf of UNFPA, Boniface Kalanda, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, said that the partnership with Marie Stopes started a very long time now, and that it provides health care for women in Sierra Leone.
The Specialist said that his organization has a lot of issues to deal with but that the major one is the reduction of maternal mortality rate, and that Marie Stopes looks at the issue of maternal mortality and the strategy that is being used is to have skills and family planning.
She added that family planning which is the major strategy used by Marie Stopes, is aimed at reducing maternal mortality through spacing of children, and it also focuses on adolescent girls.
Boniface Kalanda stated further that they will continue to support Marie Stopes to ensure that they become stronger in the fight to reduce maternal mortality rate and also to partner with government to further focus on the vulnerable.
Receiving the keys, Mrs. Blanche Gooding assured UNFPA that they will continue to target the vulnerable people in Sierra Leone through their outreach programmes, and that the vehicle will be used for its intended purpose which is mainly outreach.
She said that they hope to continue the partnership with UNFPA to reduce maternal mortality rate in the country by extending to all parts of the country.
