The Chairman and Leader of one of Sierra Leone’s newly registered Political Party, Citizen’s Democratic Party (CDP), Joshua Albert Carew has stated his party’s determination to change what he said is the current “rotten system” in the country that has caused severe hardship and suffering for majority of the people because of bad leadership.
“My party is here to change the rotten system of bad governance and bad leadership which have over the years caused the poor management of the country’s resources thereby resulting in the abject deprivation and poverty of the people to a more better way that will benefit every Sierra Leonean,” Mr. Carew told Awoko at his party office- off Circular Road in Freetown.
He said past and present governments of Sierra Leone have used recycled political approaches of divide and rule, tribalism and regionalism, coupled with bad governance ethics to perpetrate selfishness and accentuate corruption.
“Our goal is to change the system and replace it with a new political ideology that reflects the needs of the country and its people by giving power back to the people, ensuring public accountability and transparency and ensure defaulters are severely dealt with according to law,” the CDP Lead man asserted.
Making reference to other countries with similar war experiences but have moved ahead in terms of development and national reconciliation, he cited Rwanda which he noted, is currently far better in terms of socio-economic development and human resource capacity.
On the issue of corruption, Mr. Carew vowed to eliminate the menace in all public offices by adopting transparent approaches in the utilization of state funds and state properties.
“The CDP has come to redeem the country from all kinds and types of exploitation; be it in the form of direct foreign investments in the country’s mineral sector or individual conspiracies aimed at fleecing the country of much needed resources for selfish aggrandizement,” he stated.
He noted that most of the current mining agreements with mining companies are “calculatedly flawed” because those at the helm of affairs are not genuine and sincere. “The CDP will address these flaws appropriately in the interest of the people and country,” he stated.
Albert Carew frowned at the rampant political violence among political parties and their supporters, and urged the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) to ensure that political parties adhere to the stipulated PPRC Code of Practice for political parties.
