The Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD) has held a one-day capacity building workshop on HIV/AIDS and advocacy techniques for civil society organizations in Kenema district.
Addressing participants the regional coordinator of Network of HIV Positive, George Massaquoi, said “HIV infected persons need to be empowered to face the challenges in life and feel the sense of belonging to their communities”. 
He stated that human rights organizations should all address issues of stigmatization through sensitization and other means so as to reduce the spread of the pandemic and the deprivation of infected persons.
Mr Benni Sam, who is NMJD’s regional director East, said  the aim of the workshop was to bring together civil society organizations on HIV/AIDS  and share ideas, specially on strategies, methodologies and also to discuses advocacy issues that affect their work and to see how to forge ahead.
He maintained that, “the continuous sensitization on HIV/AIDS by Non Governmental Organizations, government agencies and parents can minimize its spread”.
The regional director disclosed that, “Sierra Leone has 1.35 % of its population infected… there is a chance for that percentage to increase if not controlled”.
