Tuberculosis on the increase in Kenema

The number of people infected with Tuberculosis (TB) in Kenema and its environs is increasing.
According to Edison Tarawally, the supervisor of the leprosy and TB control programme in Kenema district, “in 2006 about 831 cases of TB were recorded” and that this year alone nearly 2000 cases had already been documented.
Mr Tarawally further disclosed that because of the rise in the infection rate of the disease, “the program is training volunteers to work in remote areas so that they can quickly identify suspected cases and take them to the nearest TB post for medical examination and treatment”.
He called on members of the public to go for medical check up to know their TB status so that precaution would be taken.
