Health education made easier at FBC

Learning became a new experience for medical students at the Department of Community Health, Fourah Bay College campus, when technology was injected into their lectures.
The drab blackboard and chalk used by the department to aid lectures were replaced by ultra-modern technologies: a project screen, a data projector-Dell and a Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505 Laptop valued at $3000. Thanks to the Sierra Leone Association-Tyne and Wear.
Dr E. L Gooding, a senior lecturer at the department, told Awoko that Dr Eugene Morgan a paediatrician from the Sierra Leone Association-Tyne and Wear in Newcastle Upon Tyne in England visited Sierra Leone and was surprised to see that they were using blackboards and chalks to give lectures to students in the department.
“He promised on behalf of his organisation that they would send us these gadgets and they have fulfilled that promise,” Dr Gooding revealed.
She said these equipment had already enhanced their teaching.
On behalf of her department she said they were very grateful to Dr Eugene Morgan and the Sierra Leone Association-Tyne and Wear.
Patricia Mokuwa, a diploma student in the department, said “receiving lectures through the LCD projector is completely a new experience but a wonderful one”.
She said, “complex topics are now easier to understand when projectors are used.”
