Today marked the second anniversary of the death of journalist Harry Hassan Yansaneh who passed away at a private clinic at Kingtom, Freetown, after he was beaten by a gang instigated by a former Member of Parliament, Dr Fatmata Hassan.
The culprits have still not been charged to court even after a judicial inquest found them culpable; and despite protests from the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and its local and international partners.
Though today marked the second anniversary of the journalist‘s death, it would be commemorated after the August 11 polls.
In remembrance of the death of the former editor, SLAJ would be organizing series of events including a memorial lecture: “The Harry Yansaneh Lecture”.
Last year, the first memorial lecture was held at the Miata Conference Hall where the Harry Yansaneh Trust Fund was launched.
The historic event attracted a cross section of the Freetown community including diplomats, heads of NGOs and government functionaries.
