The tenth annual strategic meeting of African Initiative on Mining Environment and Society (AIME) has ended at the Hotel Cabenda in Freetown.
The three-day meeting, hosted by the Network Movement for Justice Development (NMJD) on the theme mining for Africa’s  Development, maximize benefits minimize cost, brought together civil society activists from across Africa.
Deliberations were focused on the strategic planning and the way forward in the extractive sector of Africa’s natural resources endowment.
Participants viewed that, “Africa is endowed with variety of extractive resources”, but realized that the process for the extraction of there resources were not contributing to the developmental aspirations of the continent and its people especially communities who settle on such resources bases.
Participants discussed and shared views and experiences on situations in the extractive sector as it occur in the various Africa countries.
AIME seeks to create platforms which promote strategies for dialogue, consensus, solidarity and information sharing among participating members and their partners.
Issues regarding the role of the international financial institutions in the extractive sector also deliberated.
