Workers of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service (SLBS FM 93.5) in Kenema on Saturday protested by closing down the main entrance of their 4 Dama Road radio office. 
Speaking to Awoko, some of the aggrieved workers alleged that it was almost two months they had now gone without receiving any salaries from the station, adding also that since they joined the station they were yet to get appointment letters from the management. 
The workers further alleged that the top brass of the station in Kenema had embezzled the money the station had been generating.
But the protest was later quelled down by the intervention of the board chairman, who happens to be the mayor of Kenema Chief Evans Gbemeh. 
Chief Evans Gbemeh told Awoko that he received an urgent call from the station manager, Andrew Smith, that his workers were protesting by shutting down the station’s main entrance. 
“Together with the council’s administrator, Mustapha Koroma, we had to rush to the scene where I met the angry workers outside the building demanding their salaries and other conditions.  I had to call on the regional director for south and east Mr Cape Koroma from Bo who then joined us in Kenema.
We succeeded in persuading the workers to open the door and called all parties to a brief talk,” he disclosed.
The board chairman, it was reported, first condemned the workers’ action as there were ways of channeling their grievances. He then called on the accountant to look into the station’s accounts and see whether the workers wouldbepaid if there was money.
Chief Evans Gbemeh recommended that the station’s staff should be meeting regularly so that they could regularize their problems before it went out of hands. He appealed to them all to put aside their political differences as politic was now over.
