A Sierra Leonean organization based in the United States of America over the weekend donated some food items to the City of Rest, a rehabilitation home, at Fort Street in Freetown
Receiving the items on behalf of the Home, Rev. Morie Ngobeh said they were happy for the gesture as the organization was far away in the States and thought of them here in Sierra Leone.
Pastor Ngobeh stated that, “we thank them for considering City of Rest, which caters for young people who are depressed by drugs. I commend them for their efforts and I pray that God will reward them.  I am praying that they continue to think about us.”
The general overseer of the City of Rest disclosed that he also sensitized young people about substance abuse and mental health in order to prevent them from developing addictions, and also to promote a compassionate response to those who were facing psychosocial, mental and or spiritual challenges in their lives.
Talking about their financial status, the spiritual minister revealed that, “we acknowledge the Lord as the ultimate source for our financial support. We are committed to financial accountability, good stewardship and gratitude.”
In presenting the items which included oil, bags of rice, onions, fishes and bread, a contact person in Sierra Leone and past president, West Africa College of Nursing Rev. Mrs Kathleen Betts-Cole said the idea came after the 2007 elections when President Ernest Bai Koroma urged all Sierra Leoneans to come and revitalize their motherland.
Due to this development some group of Sierra Leoneans based in the US came together to help in the development of the country.
The donation, she went on, “is the first step in the long road of joining hands with the government in realizing the many things we can do for our country than what our country can do for us. We owe it to our conscience to put something back into Sierra Leone and make it a better place for our children’s children’s” the past president said.
Rev.Betts-Cole said their initiative had plan to focus on the nursing and that this support revolved around the provision of hospital supplies like bandages, plaster, gauze, bed linens and other hospital medicines.
