The annual inflation rate increased in December 2015 to 8.85 percent from 8.71 percent in November 2015, according to the statistics agency. “This has resulted to an increase in the prices of food items, restaurant and hotels, housing materials and footwear across the country due to the steady depreciation of the Leone as against the forex especially the US dollar,” the release stated.
There was a general increase in prices in all the regions. The annual rate of inflation increased from 10.21 percent in November to 10.40 percent in December in the northern region. In the Western Region also, it moved upwards from 8.72 percent in November to 8.63 percent in December. In the East inflation climbed slightly from 9.44 percent to 9.47 percent and in the South from 7.96 percent to 8.14 percent.
