Sierra Leone News: Accused discharged in Lumley filling station riots

Magistrate Hannah Bonnie has discharged 13 people accused of stealing from and damaging items at the Leonco Filling Station in Lumley, west of Freetown. It is alleged that the accused are members of a nearby mosque and on 5 November 2018, destroyed a fuel pump, window frames, a 20’ container and 12 CCTV cameras, at the filling station worth over Le240 million belonging to property of Nagimu Thomas while in the custody of Zinurie Rahman. They were arrested and charged with seven counts of Conspiracy, Office Breaking and Larceny, Malicious Damage, Larceny, Riotous conduct, and Disorderly Behavior. According to the police prosecutor, ASP Ibrahim Mansaray, only one factual witness testified in the matter. The other witnesses were formal witnesses. The complainant has not appeared in Court since the matter began. The Magistrate ordered the accused be discharged accordingly.
