Sierra Leone News: Valentine’s Day child sex case kicked up to High Court

On 14 February 2019, it is alleged that 27-year old, Alimamy Kamanda invited a 15-year old Junior Secondary School girl to his house, in Freetown. According to the victim the accused was her boyfriend. She said when she visited the accused they had sex. The victim said she spent the night with Kamanda at his house.   The victim said Kamanda took her to his friend’s house where she stayed for five days. On the fifth day, the girl’s uncle found her at the accused friend’s house and the matter was reported to the Adonkia Police Station. The accused was arrested and charged with Sexual Penetration of a Child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act, 2012. At the Pademba Road Magistrate Court on Tuesday 14 May 2019, Magistrate Abdul Sheriff committed the accused for trial at the High Court. The accused was unrepresented in Court. He was not granted bail. He was remanded at the Correctional Centre to await trial.
