Sierra Leone News: Beach Road robbery trial hears testimony

Police have charged four people who are accused of an armed robbery along Lumley Beach Road on 11th February 2019. Bailoh Bundu was robbed of Le2,100,000 by robbers wielding knives. The four accused are, Morlai Kamara, Omo Morlai, Lamin Mansaray, and Ansumana Bangura. The accused are charged with conspiracy to commit felony, robbery with aggravation contrary to Section 23 (1)(a), of the Larceny Act of 1916 as repealed and replaced by Act No. 16 of 1974, and Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm contrary to Section 47 of the Offences Against the Persons Act of 1861. According to a witness, Alpha M. Adams, on 11th February 2019, he was standing in front of a night club on the Beach Road when a group of young men attacked the complainant, Bailoh Bundu. The witness testified that he intervened and grabbed one of the accused and disturbed them. He advised the accused to report the matter to the police. He said a group of Police came to his house and took his statement. The accused were not represented in Court but asked questions of the witness. The witness identified the first accused. He said he couldn’t recall seeing the others. According to the Police witness, Detective Josephus Musa, he was on duty on 11 February 2019 and issued a medical form to the complainant, Bundu, which was endorsed. He said he obtained statements from the complainant and witness. He went further to say that he and other police officers visited the scene of crime on Beach Road in Freetown. On 15th February 2019, he took statements from the four accused and charged them to Court. Magistrate Hannah Bonnie sent the accused to the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.
